Vortex Flowmeters — Installation Effects

- Feb 26, 2019 -

The vortex flowmeter is no exception and all manufacturers recognize this by specifying minimum straight lengths on either side of the meter. There is a surprising lack of experimental data, however, and no international standards or codes of practice exist to enable the meter user to judge whether or not the straight lengths recommended by the manufacturer are adequate. This paper will review data on vortex meter installation effects recently obtained at the University of Surrey and NEL. These include results with a metering package consisting of a vortex flowmeter and a perforated plate flow straightener.
